Feeding the Fire of Inspiration: A Gaelic Imbolc High Day Rite

Inis Úll - Apple Isle Grove, ADF cordially invites you to our Gaelic Imbolc High Day working: Feeding the Fire of Inspiration. The rite will take place on Saturday, February 1st, 5p.m. at Ripley-Grier Studios, 520 8th Ave, 10th Floor, Room 10C.

This Feast of Imbolc belongs to Brigid: Goddess of the Flowing Well, Goddess of Healing, Goddess of the Smithy, Goddess of the High Holy Places… At this turning of the Wheel, we shall call upon her as Goddess of Inspiration and Creativity. Brigid bestows great gifts on those she deems worthy; for she is only pleased when such boons are put to good use. Fittingly, we will offer the Goddess of our own efforts before asking for her blessings in return. Our sacrifice will take the form of a Bardic circle. Every person shall be called upon to offer some of their creative work – something they have already put good efforts into – to Brigid. Some of us may sing a song, recite a poem, tell a story, present a painting or a dance as part of the circle; others may tell the Goddess of their creative work and dedicate that labor to her (this creativity can be found in day-to-day life: in jobs, cooking, gardening, teaching, etc., as well as in the obvious arts). This sacrifice shall be fuel for Brigid’s fire; her blessings are the flames of creative inspiration that she shall shine upon our individual and Grove endeavors as we move forward.

Other offerings to Brigid and any of the Gael Kindreds can be of food or drink. Candles are especially welcome for our altar. Also, please consider including some white and/or green in your clothing. Finally, we will be receiving Brigid’s gifts through drinking blessed beverages (you will be able to choose from or mix hazelnut milk, water and whisky), so you might want to bring a special cup or chalice from which to drink.

We will be asking for donations ten dollars per person to cover the cost of the rental space. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds - your participation is more valuable than cash!

Special Note: Grove Member’s dues (on a sliding scale of nine to thirty dollars) are due by the Spring Equinox. The Pursewarden will begin collecting them at this ritual. Please remember that member dues do NOT cover contributions toward rental space (that’s how we’ve managed to keep them so low). Thanks in advance for helping Inis Úll to thrive!
