Inis Úll – Apple Isle Grove, ADF cordially invites you to our Norse Yule High Day working: Beyond Ragnarök – Then and Now. The rite will take place on Saturday, December 21st, 12 noon at Ripley-Grier Studios, 520 8th Ave, 16th Floor, Room 16H. (Note: This is not the RG location where we have been in the past!)
The Winter Solstice marks the death of the old Sun and the birth of the new: the Wheel turns… The ancient Norse understood this cyclical nature of time. They saw it not just in the days and years, but throughout the course of all of history. The culmination of this current age of the Earth, of humanity, of the Gods comes with Ragnarök, the epic battle at the end of time. The Earth is destroyed by fire and sinks into the Cosmic Waters. Yet, like the seeming-death of Winter, this end is the prelude to a fresh beginning. Eventually, the Earth emerges from the Waters, renewed; the Sun’s daughter takes her rightful place in the Sky. Even humanity is not lost, for two people, Líf and Lífþrasir have survived the world-shattering tumult by taking refuge in a mysterious wood called Hoddmímis Holt. Líf and Lífþrasir have a tremendous task: the construction of an entirely new civilization. In our ritual, we will reach out to this pair and offer them those skills we, as a Grove and as individuals, have acquired in order to aid them in their work. In return, we shall ask Líf and Lífþrasir to reflect their prodigious energies of production back to us so that we may put those same skills to greater use in the year to come.
Please bring offerings of poems, songs, works of art, food and drink to offer both Líf and Lífþrasir and any of the other great Norse Kindreds. Candles (with holders), evergreen boughs and other contributions to our community hearth and altar would be gratefully welcomed!
We will be asking for donations ten dollars per person to cover the cost of the rental space. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds – your participation is more valuable than cash!
