Hecate, Demeter, and PersephoneCome and join us on Sunday, September 18 at 2:00pm on the Great Hill in Central Park to celebrate the autumn equinox. For this rite we will be engaging the story of Hecate, the kind hearted one, and Demeter and Persephone. Hecate helps both Demeter, to help find out what happened to Persephone when she goes to the underworld and Persephone in Persephone’s journey and life in the underworld. We will be calling on Gaia, the earth/mother goddess, the sky father/god Zeus, Persephone for our spirit of inspiration and Hecate to help us open the gates. Hecate has the title “the kind hearted on” Hecate become an advisor and companion to Persephone when she is in the underworld. Hecate also helps Demeter search for Persephone went she is taken. We ask for Hecate the kind hearted one, to help us Let Go as she helped Demeter, prepare for the changing seasons, to journey into the dark side of the year. So we too look to what we need to let go of in order to continue our journey, to prepare for the changing season, the dark side of the year, and winter.

Offerings for Demeter, Hecate, and Persephone or any other deities or kindreds present at the rite are encouraged; feel free to bring them. Please be advised that alcoholic beverages brought as offerings are not officially permitted in Central Park; if you bring them, they must be well disguised. For those not familiar with our Central Park ritual location, someone will meet you at the benches at the top of the stairs leading into the park from 106th St. and Central Park West; all are invited to adjourn to a nearby pub for refreshment after the rite. Though not required for attendance, any financial contribution toward the ongoing activities of our Grove will be most appreciated.

For members of the Grove, there will be an opportunity for you to pay your 2016 membership dues. Membership dues are on a sliding scale of $9-$35. Please talk to Carolyn at the rite about your membership dues.
