Lughnasadh High Day Celebration

Inis Úll - Apple Isle Grove, ADF cordially invites you to our 2015 Lughnasa High Day celebration: Caorthannach and The Fruits of Our Harvest. The ritual will take place on Saturday, August 8th at 3pm on the Great Hill in Central Park. The great serpent Goddess Caorthannach was vilified and (quite literally) demonized by Patrick and his conspirators. They feared her primal powers which could surge from deep within the earth or bolt from the sky above. Even worse, from their point of view, she would never allow herself to be subjected by their doctrinal patriarchy. But the ancients knew that her energy flowed into the grain to make it fat; that the fruits of harvest were the containers of her life force. Yes, her power is vast and wild and dangerous; and so she must be approached with respect—and, perhaps, a bit of help…

In our rite, we will be asking Caorthannach to flow into that work which we wish to harvest. This work could be any project you have been putting effort into: academic, artistic, spiritual, environmental advocacy, etc. Please consider bringing a symbol of your work for the altar. Your commitment to reaping and wisely using the fruits of this work shall form the main offering to this potent Goddess.

The Caorthannach is, indeed, awesome in power—think of liquid electricity flowing from the ground, of lightning from the sky as cracks into the realm of pure, chaotic potential…

It would be wise to seek the assistance of a being of skill and strength and cunning and valor who could help us safely make this connection. The great God Lugh, for whom this High Day is named, is just such a being; and we shall be calling upon him to help us succeed in our purpose.

This Gael Hearth Culture rite will follow the ADF Core Order of Ritual. All folk of good will are welcome to attend! Please bring offerings for Caorthannach, Lugh and any of the great Gael Kindreds. Food and drink and songs and poems and beautiful things are all appropriate gifts to give at this time.

IMPORTANT: Please note that any alcoholic offerings MUST be in containers which disguise their real identity. We are exercising our religious rights, but it is best to avoid troubles with the authorities!

We will be asking for donations to help cover our Grove's costs. Five or ten dollars would help us out greatly - whatever you feel comfortable giving. Your participation is far more valuable than cash.

Someone will guide people who don’t know where our ritual site is from the benches south of the restrooms at the top of the Great Hill in Central Park (this is on the *northwest* part of the hill, across from where we hold our rites). To get there, enter the park via "Strangers Gate" at 106th Street and Central Park West, climb the stairs and,
when you get to the top, you'll see the benches to your left (north) between where you are and the restrooms. For this reason, it is extremely helpful if you let us know you are coming! If you are late: from the restrooms, walk east across the top of the hill - hopefully, the Fairies may lead you to us!
